An Unusual Case of Post-Operative Functional Stridor After Emergence From General Anesthesia

چکیده
Post-anesthesia stridor due to laryngospasm, laryngeal edema, or any other organic cause is a life-threatening condition requiring immediate intervention. The very rare functional psychogenic following emergence from general anesthesia may sometimes mimic an cause, but it neither fatal nor require airway management. However, if the not diagnosed timely, lead unnecessary manipulation of airway, such as endotracheal intubation tracheostomy. We report herein case in 48-year-old woman who underwent abdominal-perineal resection for carcinoma rectum. was timely by attending anesthetist, and patient recovered spontaneously, thus avoiding unindicated handling its associated complications.

An unusual case of neonatal stridor.
A25-day baby neonate presented with fever and stridor. He had severe respiratory distress at admission. The systemic examination was unremarkable. The roentgenogram of soft tissues of neck revealed widening of superior mediastinum. Computed tomography of neck and upper chest revealed multiple abscesses in the retropharyngeal space, parapharyngeal space, and superior mediastinum. The child impro...
متن کاملPost Operative Effects: Anesthesia
Anesthesia result in a variety of metabolic and endocrine responses, but conventional wisdom maintains that anesthetic technique has little long-term effect on patient outcomes. There is accumulating evidence that, on contrary, anesthetic management may in fact exert a number of longer-term effects in postoperative outcome. Here, we review the most topical aspects of anaesthetic management whic...
متن کاملAn essential role for orexins in emergence from general anesthesia.
The neural mechanisms through which the state of anesthesia arises and dissipates remain unknown. One common belief is that emergence from anesthesia is the inverse process of induction, brought about by elimination of anesthetic drugs from their CNS site(s) of action. Anesthetic-induced unconsciousness may result from specific interactions of anesthetics with the neural circuits regulating sle...
متن کاملMethylphenidate actively induces emergence from general anesthesia.
BACKGROUND Although accumulating evidence suggests that arousal pathways in the brain play important roles in emergence from general anesthesia, the roles of monoaminergic arousal circuits are unclear. In this study, the authors tested the hypothesis that methylphenidate (an inhibitor of dopamine and norepinephrine transporters) induces emergence from isoflurane general anesthesia. METHODS Us...
